NCUA Notice of Insurance Coverage Notice of Changes in Temporary NCUA Insurance Coverage for Transaction Accounts. All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the National Credit Union Administration through December 31, 2012. It does not include any transaction account that may earn intesest or dividends, a negotiable order of withdrawl ("NOW") account, money-market deposit account, and Interest of Lawyers Trust Account ("IOLTA"), even if share drafts may be drawn on the account. New Debit Card Scam A new debit cards scam has been targeting people in three states, one of them including Kansas. The scam is targeting both banks and credit unions. The scam is a automated message that says "your debit card has been disabled temporarily." The recorded message then asks you to press 1 to reactivate your card. Next, the recording asks you to "please punch in your 16 digit card number." DO NOT ENTER YOUR CARD NUMBER. If you enter your card number your account will be cleared out within the hour. Athough the name of the credit union is used in the recording it is not authentic. Mid-Kansas Credit Union will never ask you for your debit card number over the phone or by e-mail and does not use recorded messages to communicate with its members. Read this to learn more. Overdraft Privilege On Your Account is Changing Due to recent changes in legislation, overdraft protection on you account is changing. To continue your current overdraft protection on ATM and everyday debit card transactions be sure to opt-in soon. New regulations require individuals to specifically request overdraft coverage for ATM and everyday debit card transactions. What this means to you If you do not want the credit union to pay overdrafts of ATM and everyday debit card transactions, no further action is necessary. After August 14, 2010 we may not authorize and pay overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions. What happens if I don't choose to opt-in? Questions? NCUA Increases Account Insurance Up to $250,000 The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, signed into law on October 3, 2008, increased the insurance coverage on all accounts up to $250,000 through December 31, 2009. Previously accounts were insured up to $100,000. This increase is in response to the concerns about the recent economic conditions. This insurance protects members against losses if a federally insured credit union should fail. You can confidently join and conduct business with federally insured credit unions because no member has ever lost money insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). As a result Mid-Kansas Credit Union members can be assured that their accounts are secure. Internet and E-Mail Scams Moundridge is not immune to the dark side of Internet and e-mail scams. It has come to our attention that there is currently a scam going around the area where people will receive an e-mail requesting their assistance. This e-mail asks for the recipient to take a delivery of either cashier's checks or money orders. Next, it will ask the recipient to cash them at local financial institutions and return a large portion of the cash to the sender and the recipient may keep the rest. In all of these cases the money orders and/or cashiers checks are either fake or fraudulent. As a service to our membership and community we here at Mid-Kansas Credit Union can determine if these correspondences and/or checks are legitimate. Please come in and see any one of our tellers or Anthony Jasso for verification. Remember there is no such thing as "something for nothing." Also, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t Be Fooled Don't be fooled by "e-mails" that ask you to open an attachment. As a policy, Mid-Kansas Credit Union never sends out unsolicited emails or asks for personal information over e-mail. Lower Visa Credit Card Rate Mid-Kansas Credit Union offers a lower rate on our Visa Credit Card. 10.9% APR |
